A Man And His Guitar

Travis Tritt

2016 - Post Oak Productions.  One of the best decisions that an entertainer can make in their career, is the decision to record one of their live performances to release it as a live album.  If the live album is correctly executed, it will develop into a win-win situation for both the entertainer and their fans.  Whether we acknowledge it or not, there are music fans who have to make difficult financial decisions regarding attending a performance of their favorite entertainer.  Let’s face it, the inflation of ticket costs has led many to make the decision of maxing out their credit cards or face the reality of telling their friends that they can not afford to attend.  How many performances have you failed to attend due to the price of attending.  The average cost of a ticket today is around $150.00 per person and that is not including travel, food, and accommodations. Now weigh that cost with the cost of a physical copy of a live album - $20.00.  For those who attended the performance can share with their friends an audio version of their experience.  In my years in the music industry, I have heard live albums that were atrocious as they only included the live music with the audience in the background.  A well created live album will include the entire live performance, while showcasing the entertainer’s interaction with the audience.  This brings us to Travis Tritt’s album.  Travis took it one step further as it includes the entire performance of only him and his guitar.  Live From The Franklin Theatre this two-disc album features around two hours of pure musical enjoyment.  Tritt includes some of his well known songs including “Where Corn Don’t Grow,” “I’m Gonna Be Somebody,” “Country Ain’t Country No More,” “Here’s A Quarter,” “Country Club,” and “T-R-O-U-B-L-E.”  Travis also pays tribute to his heroes like Waylon Jennings and George Jones among his choice of songs.  The enjoyable part of the show comes with the introduction and performance with James Otto.  Nonetheless it is his entertaining antics with Marty Stuart that was the crowd pleaser. Marty and Travis debut a new song that they had been working on. Personally, I believe that the highlight of the album was the reality that Travis Tritt is an accomplished guitar picker.  Many artists are backed by talented musicians and rarely do we hear the entertainer in their authenticity.  This project truly presents Travis Tritt in his genuineness and true self.  Although I feel like his song choices could have favored more, I will admit that this is one of the more pristine live albums I have heard.  Perhaps this project will inspire other artists to seek recording live albums.  This one is worthy of any music collection.   $$$$+
